Bon Voyage Edmonton!

After coming home to Edmonton this summer, I was thrilled to see how many cool places has popped up during my absence. Gone are the days of chain restaurants, shitty pubs serving equally shitty beer, and shopping at boring malls.

Edmonton said hello to a new hockey arena and hello to a whole new downtown core, or at least that’s the plan.

I wanted to do one last hurrah in my lovely,  but freezing cold city, and thought that this was the perfect opportunity to tell alllll of you what Edmonton has to offer. You know just in case you have a really long layover or a desire to watch a hockey game…. you have 48 hours in Edmonton, here’s what to do!

Where to stay?

Edmonton may have hotels but they don’t have many good ones. Ya’ll know me and my love for impromptu hotel stays, so I was less than pleased to hit up Expedia and see that the options were rather lacking.

That being said.

There is one diamond in the rough and is well known for being THE PLACE to stay if you are a visitor. The Matrix Hotel is located right downtown in a location that is quiet but still only a few steps away from some of the best spots in the city. PLUS they have a complimentary Lexus car service to take you around downtown, just in case you wanna wear the fancy shoes. Ya know?

Where to Eat?

Dining options in Edmonton are sooooo plentiful that I was unable to fit in all the spots I wanted to before I left again.

Some of my favs? North 53 for small bites and amaaaazing crafted cocktails, Tiramisu Cafe for bistro style foods and of course a delicious tiramisu to finish, and Elm Cafe for amazing scones, sandwiches, and yummmmmy coffee.

What to do?

Lucky for you if you are staying in #YEG for the weekend you will be able to hit at least one of the city’s farmer’s markets. Sample until your heart’s content and walk around taking in all the different people enjoying themselves.

My fav market is the one on 104th (sooo close to where you are obviously staying at The Matrix), and some great cafes line the streets so you can watch the action with a nice warm beverage in hand, you’ll need it.

Now what’s a trip away without spending your hard earned cash on clothes you probably WON’T need. Skip the infamous, tourist trap that is West Edmonton Mall and focus on some local designers, and gems. Check out Workhall for minimalist trends, and Gravity Pope for a great selection of shoes.

Matrix Hotel Lexus CarEdmonton got cool, and I will miss it. Kinda. Can’t wait to meet all the new cool kids when I visit again.

Toronto you are cool, not in the weather way, but in the I could live here and kinda love it way. I had a grand time exploring a small, small piece of Eastern Canada. There was lots to see, and I  needed to escape freezing Edmonton for at least a week. Before I came I […]

GET ME THE HELL OUTTA HERE. I want/need to go on a trip, I’m just not sure where, when, how, and why. Typical kind of attitude when you plan on dropping thousands of dollars. I know. I kinda had narrowed it down between Australia and Japan, and then further to Japan. So I guess I’m going to […]
